The Garmin Zumo 550 is a purpose built motorcycle GPS navigation unit.  The Zumo allows the Rider to view and hear navigation prompts, connect and control their mobile phone, as well as load and hear MP3 music.

Garmin Zumo 550

The Garmin Zumo has many other features and accessories which are too detailed to go into here, so it is advisable to visit Garmin at http://www.garmin.com/

Connecting the Zumo to an Autocom system: As mentioned... the Zumo has three (3) main functions that can be utilised with the Autocom systems: Navigation, Music, & Phone.

There are three (3) ways to connect a Zumo to an Autocom system... depending on which functions of the Zumo you wish to use.

GPS and Music ONLY

If only wanting to hear the GPS navigation prompts or Music, then the hardwired Music Interface Lead (Part 1314) will connect from the Stereo OUT jack (3.5mm-SPK) on the side of the Zumo mounting bracket.  The Audio Out Socket is located on the side of the Zumo's cradle.

This then connects into the Music INPUT of the Autocom system.

Autocom model inputs:

Super Pro AVI - Insert 3.5mm 3-pole stereo plug into socket: AUX 2 or AUX 3.

Active-PLUS - Insert 3.5mm 3-pole stereo plug into socket: AUX 2.

Easi-PLUS - Insert 3.5mm 3-pole stereo plug into socket: AUX 2.

Pro-7-Sports - Insert 3.5mm 3-pole stereo plug into socket: MUSIC.

Active-7-Smart - Insert 3.5mm 3-pole stereo plug into socket: MUSIC.

Easi-7-Advance - Insert 3.5mm 3-pole stereo plug into socket: MUSIC.

This method is the best option for getting full stereo music from the Zumo.  Unfortunately Music does not "Bluetooth" very well which is why the hardwired lead is used.

GPS & Mobile Phone

If wanting to interface a mobile phone to the Autocom system via the Zumo, the Autocom Bluetooth Adaptor is the best option.

There are two Bluetooth Adaptors available (Parts 1273 or 1276) depending on which Autocom model is used. Please refer to the Bluetooth Adaptor section for further information on which Adaptor is compatible for your Autocom model... and also how to connect the Adaptor to the Autocom unit.

The Autocom Bluetooth Adaptor connects to the Phone socket of the Autocom unit, and is wirelessly paired to the Zumo.

Connecting the Autocom Adaptor to a Zumo via Bluetooth...

 1. The Bluetooth Adaptor has two Dust-Covers at the end, which must be temporarily removed to access the On/Off button and LED.

Please do not misplace the dust covers, as they must be replaced when set-up is complete.

When the Bluetooth Adaptor is installed correctly, the Adaptor will turn on automatically with the bike's ignition, and the Adaptor's LED will start flashing slowly (about once a second).

First step is to turn OFF the Adaptor by pressing and holding the Adaptor's On/Off button.  This will be indicated when the red LED is completely off.

The next step is to turn back ON the Adaptor, and prepare it to "Pair" with the ZUMO.

IMPORTANT: After waiting a few seconds to make sure the LED is off... Press and hold the button continuously.  The LED will come on and flash periodically for a few seconds, and will then settle in to a continuous "RAPID" Flashing mode.

It is important to have the LED Flashing RAPIDLY.  The LED will flash a few times a second.

 2.  While the Autocom Adaptor's LED is flashing rapidly... Enter the Zumo's Bluetooth Menu by pressing the "Bluetooth" button in the settings menu.
 3. The Autocom Adaptor is paired to the Zumo via the "Connect Headset" option.
Press the "Add" button, followed by the "Add Device" button.

The Zumo will show an Hour-Glass while it is searching for devices.

The Autocom Bluetooth Adaptor will show on the Zumo's Device List as "Autocom Dongle"

Select the "Autocom Dongle"

The Autocom Bluetooth Adaptor is now paired to the Garmin Zumo.

GPS, Mobile Phone, & Music

To use the Garmin Zumo for GPS, Music, & Mobile Phone, then both of the above options must be used.

That is... both the hardwired Interface Lead (Part 1314) and the Bluetooth Adaptor (Parts 1273 or 1276) will be required.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Please ensure that the ZUMO has the latest Firmware Updates.  There are in total four (4) updates for the Garmin ZUMO.  These are available via the Garmin web site, and relate to the Zumo's actual Firmware, as well as Map and Bluetooth updates... Please ensure that you do all possible update options.

Please also set the Zumo to "Phone Only" in the Zumo's Bluetooth settings.  This indicates to the Zumo that any phone/adaptor used through the Zumo will be via Bluetooth... as opposed to the hardwired option.  This especially applies to the Option for using GPS, Music, & Mobile Phone as only the phone will be used for Bluetooth, and the other audio functions such as GPS and Music will be hardwired.
