GPS - Garmin Zumo (Autocom 2009 models)

The Garmin Zumo 550 & 660 is a purpose built motorcycle GPS navigation unit. The Zumo allows the Rider to view and hear navigation prompts, connect and control their mobile phone, as well as load and hear MP3 music.

Garmin Zumo 550

The Garmin Zumo has many other features which are too detailed to go into here, so it is advisable to visit Garmin at http://www.garmin.com/

Connecting the Zumo to a 2009 Autocom system (eg: Logic, Super Pro Automatic): As mentioned... the Zumo has three (3) main functions that can be utilised with the Autocom systems: Navigation, Music, & Phone.

There are two(2) ways to connect a Zumo to a new 2009 Autocom system.... Hardwired and Bluetooth

Hardwired

The Garmin Zumo 550 & 660 comes with a handlebar Mounting Kit which includes a bracket in which the Zumo sits. This bracket has two (2) jacks on the side (Zumo 550), and the Zumo 660 has two female jacks coming off the 12volt power lead. One is a 2.5mm (mono ) Microphone input jack, the other is a 3.5mm (stereo) jack for audio output.

The Zumo and the mounting bracket are two separate pieces, and the Zumo is normally removed from the bracket (and bike) when not being used.

Therefore... a good option for connecting the Zumo to the Autocom system is hardwiring. The hardwired lead can be run from the bracket under the tank to the Autocom (using cable ties), and virtually makes the connection permanent and seamless.

Hardwired Notes:
  • The above Part 4066 can be used for both the 550 & 660 on all new 2009 Autocom systems, and all previous 2006-2009 systems (using the 4-pole Music input AUX2 on these pre-2009 systems)
  • This lead is compatible with the following Autocom models: Logic, Super Pro Auto, Active-Plus, & Super Pro AVi

*For the mobile phone connectivity.... Please ensure that the ZUMO has the latest Firmware Updates. There are in total four (4) updates for the Garmin ZUMO. These are available via the Garmin web site, and relate to the Zumo's actual Firmware, as well as Map and Bluetooth updates... Please ensure that you do all possible update options.

Bluetooth

If hardwiring is not preferred, than Bluetooth Adaptors (or modules) are available to connect between the Zumo and Autocom systems.

The Bluetooth adaptors allow all the standard features of the Garmin Zumo to operate... navigation, music, and mobile phone

The BTM-02A is easily installed on both the Logic or Super Pro Auto, or any previous Autocom unit. This allows the Autocom units to wirelessly connect to the Garmin Zumo (or mobile phone) without the need for wires.
