Autocom Kits

Autocom systems now come in three kits to help you get started.  All Kits cover the basic needs of a single rider and can be expanded upon with other options and accessories to allow Rider-to-Pillion communication, Mobile Phone connectivity, Music, Bike-to-Bike, etc.

Standard Parts Included...

Each of the Autocom Kits include the actual Autocom unit, a single helmet headset, a standard Music lead, and a standard Phone lead.  These components are normally enough to get a single Rider up and running with music and mobile phone. (although for mobile phone connectivity, a phone adaptor may be required depending on which phone you have).

The included Music Lead (part 1307) is 1.5m long, and has two 3.5mm plugs (3-pole) at each end.  These leads connect into the Autocom unit's Music AUX input, and then plug into a standard music device... such as MP3 and CD Walkmans, etc (anyone under the age of 20 reading this may want to do a Google search on CD Walkmans or Discmans)

The Phone Lead (Part 1240) is also 1.5m long, and has a 3.5mm plug (4-pole) at one end, and a 2.5mm plug (3-pole) at the other.  The 3.5mm plug goes into the Autocom's Phone AUX (normally AUX 1), and the other plugs either into a mobile phone, or one of the available Phone Adaptors (Part 51x).

Please Note: There are several phone adaptors available depending on the brand and model of your phone.  If there is not an adaptor available for your phone, there are special optional phone leads (Part 1278, etc) available or alternatively Autocom have two Bluetooth Adaptors (Dongles) which will wirelessly connect to virtually all Bluetooth Phones (Parts 1273/1276).  These Bluetooth Adaptors connect into the Autocom's AUX 1 input, and sit under the bike's seat with the Autocom unit.  When the Bike is turned ON, the Bluetooth Adaptor will pair with the mobile phone without the need to actually plug the phone in.

More on Kits...

Depending on which Autocom you choose and the unit's features, the "Kits" may also come with additional parts.  For example, because the Active-PLUS is designed to normally be powered from the Bike's 12volt power, the Active-PLUS Kit comes with the 12volt Power Lead included. (The Easi-PLUS Kit does not come with a 12volt power lead).

When powering the Autocom system from the Bike's 12volt... most people normally mount the actual Autocom unit under the Bike's seat.  This is the most popular option, as the Autocom unit is safe and secure from prying eyes, and is always ready to work when the bike is turned ON.  The two hard-wired Headset leads are then brought out from under the seat, with just the heads of the DIN plugs showing.

Getting to the point....

With the Autocom unit's DIN plugs coming out from under the seat, the Rider can connect to these using Extension Leads.  There are two Extension Leads available.  Straight (Part 1179) and Coiled (Part 1183).  These connect to the helmet headset and plug into the DIN plugs.

This is often the best way to set-up a system, as when leaving the bike, there are no long leads hanging down the bike, possibly hitting exhaust pipes, etc, and if staying overnight somewhere, the DIN plugs can be easily "popped" back under the seat.

Really getting to the point... As mentioned, because the Active-PLUS is designed to be bike powered, this kit also comes with Straight Extension Leads (Part 1179), and clips to hold the DIN plugs when not being used.

Units, Kits, Rider-Kits... very confusing stuff?

Not really.  Basically there are two (2) Autocom Units.  The Easi-PLUS and the Active-PLUS.  These are the names of the actual black boxes (or Autocom units).

These two units come in two starter KITS... the Easi Rider Kit and the Active Rider Kit.

These two kits then have Part Numbers...

 1001

Active Rider Kit

 Kit 200

 1003

*The Actual Units also have part numbers themselves, but these are really not important unless you want to purchase an Autocom unit on its own.  Most people who do this are those lucky ones that have two bikes.  They sometimes buy the extra Autocom unit on its own for the second bike.  And because they already have a system with a helmet headset, they don't require a full kit.

Pillion:

If wanting to connect a Pillion... simply add another Headset Kit (Part 1153)

Bike-to-Bike:

It is best to consider the Active-PLUS for Bike-to-Bike connectivity.  This unit has built-in Voice Activation (VOX).

The Easi-PLUS can be set-up for Bike-to-Bike, however three leads are required.  Parts 1454 and 1506 are needed, and then one of the Interface Leads to suit a compatible Transceiver (Parts 1434 / 1434R / 1440 / 1443 / 79 / 80) (Please refer to the "System Features" section for more details)

Active Rider Kit (kit 200)

 1 x Active-PLUS Main Unit  1003
 1 x Rider Headset 1153
 1 x Rider Extension Lead 1179
 1 x Standard Phone Lead 1240
 1 x Standard Music Lead 1307
 1 x Bike Power Lead 1536
 1 x Bike Fitting Kit 1528
 1 x Instruction Manual

Power:

The Active-PLUS comes with both a 9volt adaptor and a 12volt connection cable.

Pillion:

If adding a Pillion... simply add another Headset Kit (Part 1153). An additional Headset Extension Lead (Part 1179 or 1183) is also recommend if mounting the Active-PLUS on the bike, and powering the unit from the bike's 12volt power.

Bike-To-Bike:

The Active-PLUS can be set-up for Bike-to-Bike with the addition of one of the Interface Leads to suit a compatible Transceiver (Parts 1434 / 1434R / 1440 / 1443 / 79 / 80) - (Please refer to the "System Features" section for more details)

The optional "Press-to-Talk" (PTT) is a recommended addition if travelling with a Pillion.  Autocom's VOX is absolutely brilliant! Basically when the microphones are opened while speaking, the Transceiver will transmit.

However if riding with friends and other bikes, they might not want to hear your glorious singing, or you just might want to talk privately.  So to stop the Transceiver transmitting via VOX, the addition of the PTT will only let the Transceiver transmit when you press the button.
